Watch: The data licensing opportunity for your company
Start with the work behind the data.
Think about how someone new learns your business. A spreadsheet may show the result, but the instructions, review steps, and decisions around it explain how the work actually happens.
Those are the kinds of materials I would start thinking about when taking stock of a company’s operational knowledge. For example:
A recurring process
How does your team close the books each month? Consider the checklist, review notes, and steps used to resolve discrepancies.
A decision with context
How do you evaluate a supplier or approve a project? The criteria and tradeoffs can explain more than the final decision alone.
These are illustrative examples, not a list of materials approved for submission. First establish what your company is permitted to share.
Who is this opportunity for?
micro1 currently highlights established companies with 30+ employees, documented operations, and primarily English-language data. US companies are prioritized. Selection depends on the active opportunity and micro1’s review.

Enterprise data privacy
PII Transformation for Enterprise Datasets
micro1’s PII transformation approach is designed to help protect personally identifiable information (PII), such as names and email addresses, while preserving the business context that makes your data useful for AI development.
The approach replaces real identities with consistent synthetic identities across related records. This helps preserve useful workflows and relationships without retaining the original identifying values.
As part of your company’s onboarding discussions, confirm with micro1 which privacy protections and data-handling terms apply to your proposed partnership. Read micro1’s PII transformation overview.

Four questions I would ask first.
An interesting opportunity still needs to make sense for your business. Get clear answers to these before committing:
- Scope and use. Which materials would be included? Who could use them, for what purposes, and for how long?
- Permissions and handling. Do you have the rights and approvals to share them? How would sensitive information, access, and deletion be handled?
- Payment. What earns compensation, when is it paid, and which milestones or conditions apply?
- Team effort. Who prepares the data? How much time would your team contribute, and would participation be ongoing?
A note from Jason
Why I am exploring this.
Through SmartHelping, I build financial models that help people understand and evaluate businesses. The useful work starts with how a company operates: its assumptions, decisions, processes, and experience.
Data Has Value is where I explore how that knowledge might create additional value as AI develops. My goal is to explain the opportunity clearly and help business owners ask better questions.

A few practical questions.
Is there a guaranteed payout?
No. Selection and compensation depend on micro1’s assessment. Data quality, scope, and distinctiveness are among the factors; an application is not a payment offer.
Would my company keep ownership of its data?
micro1 states that companies retain ownership of their underlying data. Review the actual agreement for the rights granted, permitted uses, and handling terms.
Should I send Jason company files?
Please do not send me confidential company data. Use micro1’s process to discuss suitability, permissions, and the proposed scope before sharing materials.
